It was a hugely frustrating day for Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday as we returned to proper football in our Premier League tie with Chelsea at the Molineux.
Falling to a 5-2 defeat on the day, and it’s fair to say Chelsea win was deserved and justified, our search for a top flight win in the campaign of 2019/20 continues and although we are only five games in, we do unfortunately find ourselves down in 19th spot in the table.
Plenty will debate how much of an impact our early start to the season with the Europa League campaign is affecting us, others will lean on second season syndrome, but at this early stage of the season we shouldn’t be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
That doesn’t mean fans can’t criticise players who have had a particularly bad day, and the usually reliable Conor Coady certainly fell by his own standards – again though, Chelsea were clinical and plenty of fans will note the defensive changes by head coach Nuno Espirito Santo as potentially not exactly helping things.
We just have to dust off and look for improvements. Coady wasn’t the only one to slip from his usual standards, but it’s football, it happens.
Following his worst game for any club 2 weeks ago.

Point bloody proven once again Coady being shoddy getting bloody caught out and in goes a goal #WWFC #wwfc #wolverhamptonwanders

It’s taken a good while for teams to work us out but it’s fairly simple really you just pin coady and we can’t cope. Banged on about this since Zohore & Mitrovic destroyed us in the championship #wwfc

Unfortunately I think teams have worked us out this season and see Coady as a bit of a week point. Gets beaten easily in the air and is awful in 1 on 1 situations

People finally realising that coady is a fraud of a defender & our recruitment was shocking in the summer…

Wolves time we stood up and show them who the big boys are. We missed Boly big time and that shouldn’t be the case we should be able to pull together as a team no matter who is on the pitch.Coady what’s going on mate. You seem to be getting caught out.Come on Wolves #wwfc #WWFC

I’d drop him and put Vallejo as the sweeper, can’t expect to just be starting every week when he’s putting performances like this season.

Doherty looked back to old form today and should permanently come in for Adama who although is an obvious attacking threat, exposes us to too much risk. Pressure on coady for first time in a while…poor start to the season. #wwfc

We didn’t trouble them first half going forward, way too predictable what we’re gonna do. Only looked better second half as they can’t defend.
